San Diego Government Entities Purchase 4.5 MW of Fuel Cells

Three fuel cells have been sold to government entities in San Diego, California. The fuel cells will be powered by biogas generated by the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant. A 2.8 MW fuel cell will be used by the University of California - San Diego, a 1.4 MW fuel cell will be installed at the South Bay Water Reclamation Plant in San Diego, and a 300 kilowatt fuel cell will be used at the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant. The fuel cell installed at the Point Loma Wastewater Treatment Plant will generate enough to power the biogas purification process. The City of San Diego is expected to generate $2.6 million in revenue from the sale of its biogas over the next 10 years.
