Energy Efficiency Funds Headed towards Louisiana State Prisons

August 19, 2011

Nine Louisiana state prisons have been approved to receive funding through federal economic stimulus financing.  This money, which will be used for energy efficient upgrades, will be provided to the prisons as Qualified Energy Conservation Bonds via a complex financing deal involving the Louisiana Community Development Authority and Johnson Controls Inc.  Although there is some skepticism around how much money this program will actually save, the hope is that this investment will spare the state $13 million in financing costs over the life of the project.
