Toms River Schools (NJ) Completing 6.2 MW of Installed Solar

November 30, 2011

Toms River Regional School District (New Jersey) is nearing completion of a second phase solar panel installation atop 11 district schools and two Board of Education-owned buildings. The first phase solar panel project was completed in 2004 as part of the Smart Schools Initiative. The second phase installation will be finished by December 31st, with any remaining work to be completed in January 2012. Once complete, the district will have 6.2 megawatts (MW) of installed solar capacity.

The solar panel installations coincided with required school building roof repairs. It is estimated that the district saved $5 million by completing roof work as part of the solar project. The solar panel installations are estimated to save the school district $12.15 million in energy costs over the next 15 years.
