President Sends Greetings to Energy 2006 Conference Attendees

August 17, 2006

This year's Energy 2006 Conference held in Chicago, August 6-9, was the ninth annual gathering of federal energy facility managers and private sector energy specialists. The conference themed "Roadmap to a Brighter Future," was co-sponsored by the Department of Energy, General Services Administration and the Veterans Administration. Conference attendees garnered accolades from none other than President Bush. Participants there to learn and explore ways of reducing federal energy use were provided with a copy of the President's address as they listened to keynote speaker Alexander Karsner, the Department of Energy's, Assistant Secretary for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

In his remarks, the President called the conference "important to a secure energy future for our children and grandchildren." He encouraged participants to, "utilize ESPCs (energy savings performance contracts) and Super ESPCs to meet their energy reduction goals and advance the growth and prosperity of our great country while being good stewards of taxpayer dollars and our environment." In addition, Assistant Secretary Karsner stressed the importance of federal leadership in energy management, and in his remarks said he recognizes, "the extraordinary public-private cooperation that is at the heart of diminishing our unsustainable dependences and altering the national energy balance."

The conference attracted about 1400 energy professionals from public and private sectors who participated in a wide range of workshop training sessions as well as an exhibit hall featuring advanced energy efficiency products and services. Read Karsner's full remarks.

Energy 2006 was a huge success! Workshops and other sessions were well attended and the exhibit hall was busy as well. All of the workshops and the public forum were rich and full of content about energy issues. Thanks to our registrants for participating, to our fantastic speakers for sharing crucial information, to our 140 exhibitors for bringing energy efficient products and services, and to our terrific planning committee volunteers for helping us organize our best conference to date. Together we will provide a "Roadmap to a Brighter Energy Future."

Conference proceedings and presentations will be available soon. For now, please visit the Energy 2006 Web site for more information on the conference.
