Systems Development and Manufacturing

The Solar America Initiative's Systems Development and Manufacturing research activities provide significant opportunities for collaboration and partnership among industry and university researchers on components and systems that are ready for mass production and capable of delivering electricity at Solar America Initiative target costs.

This research is divided into two areas:

  • Technology Pathway Partnerships—Activities focused on research and development (R&D) of concentrating solar power (CSP) and photovoltaic (PV) component and system design that is ready for mass production and capable of delivering energy at target costs.
  • University Process and Product Development Support—Targeted materials science and process engineering research by universities in support of industry-led teams who are developing new CSP and PV systems for commercialization by 2010 to 2015.
