SunShot CSP Program
On Contract from ManTech International Corporation
As a financial analyst, Jason Plageman helps keep the SunShot concentrating solar power (CSP) team's finances stable and healthy.
After earning his undergraduate degree in finance, Jason was drawn to renewable energy after attending various "green" events, such as meeting with local solar installers and attending various presentations centered on renewable technologies offered by the engineering department at Pennsylvania State University (PSU). This attraction led to him joining the SunShot CSP team in 2011.
"My interest in solar has blossomed as a result of my involvement with the technical team here," Jason says.
His primary duty is to manage the financial aspect of each of the projects within the CSP portfolio. This includes but is not limited to detailed budgeting, forecasting, fund distribution, invoice review, and variance analysis. He also analyzes existing business processes within the SunShot program and optimizes those processes where they can be standardized or improved. Periodically, he turns his sharp eye onto the awardees' and applicant's proposed budgets at contract stage gates, and participates in related budget discussions and negotiations.
Jason says the highlight of his work is collaborating with the SunShot finance team in a process improvement effort. "We have made great strides in an inter-office consistency effort throughout all solar technologies," he says. "My goal is to maintain a firm understanding of CSP's financial situation at all times, while broadening my understanding of the technology that is funded through our funding opportunity announcements."
Jason earned his B.S. in finance from PSU in 2009, with a concentration in accounting and a minor in psychology. He is currently pursuing an M.B.A. with Saint Joseph's University.
