SunShot Prize: Race to the Rooftops

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), the SunShot Prize aims to spur low-cost rooftop solar installations across the nation. This competition offers a total of $10 million in cash awards to the first three teams that repeatedly demonstrate an average of $1 per watt (W) for non-hardware costs such as permitting, interconnection, and inspection.

Goal & Prize

Break the $1/W plug-in price for rooftop PV. Win $10 million dollars in total cash awards.

Challenge & Rules

Install 5,000 new rooftop PV systems before 2015 and 1,000 more before 2016 while averaging $1/W for plug-in price before subsidies. Prize rules here.


PV systems installed before registration do not count. Submit a Concept Paper to register today. Claim awards before December 31, 2014.
